C a r o t i d A r t e r y S u r g e r y The carotid arteries are two large blood vessels that provide a major portion of the blood flow to the brain. In case of blockages surgery may be required. The objective is to improve the blood flow to the brain and to reduce the risk of suffering from a stroke. There are several treatment options including a straight forward open procedure. Minimally invasive balloon angioplasty can be an option and is usually combined with the placement of structural support to the vessel called a stent.
