An aortic aneurysm is a malformation of the main artery of the body: the aorta. It usually includes a widening and weakening of the aortic wall.  The main concern is the risk of unexpected rupture which leads to massive internal bleeding. Without a quick diagnosis and a prompt surgical treatment, this event usually results in a quick death. For this reason this procedure is carried out as a preventive measure. Surgical interventions include minimally invasive placement of structural stents or open repair of the diseased part of the aorta. Any established vascular department in Germany carries out these types of procedures.
